Pedro Boxing Club first opened its doors in 1929. In the 1960s Elizabeth Taylor was a patron and visited it twice. Both the Tory and Lib Dem parties have used the club to launch political campaigns pretending to be one of the people. But primarly the club is one of the few places in the area offering young people an alternative to hanging out on street corners, but like most other youth clubs they are struggeling to stay alive financially without any support from the government. I first visited the club in 2011 and have returned on many occasions. You can read our interview with MBE James Cook who is the driving force behind the club by clicking here.   -Jørn Tomter
